Last night I learned about Sister Rose Thering, Ph.D. Saint Louis University (that’s us!), whose dissertation on Catholic education’s representations of Jews and Judaism, and other work she did, was an important part of Vatican II’s rethinking of the Catholic relationship to Judaism.

My takeaway: cross-situational learning is a viable strategy for early nouns, but only with strong visual representations. Building developmentally plausible models will require understanding how to learn those representations from naturalistic data.
