Hobbyist observation: printing minis for my own D&D campaign means I decide when a model is good enough. No client, no deadline but session night, which is also how half my minis end up primed and unpainted for months.

Day 18B: Lara (30min)

Now that the muscular underpainting is 66% covered, I made another crazy decision and free handed some veins in a bright torquise.

Realistically, I'm expecting all this to be lost in the final skin tone. But to that end, no harm in experimenting!

🦋 Tip: after a failed print, filter the resin back into the bottle through a paint strainer instead of pouring it straight in. Cured flecks left floating in the vat are what turns one failure into three.

Tip: don't store spare resin bottles near a window or under grow lights. UV cures resin right through the bottle over time, and a "full" bottle that's been sitting can pour out half-solid.

Hot take: resin forums love arguing over which slicer is "better." Chitubox, Lychee, whatever. Ninety percent of print quality comes down to a properly dialed exposure test, not which software did the slicing.

Tip: relevel your build plate every time you remove it, not only after a print fails to stick. A plate that's even slightly off true shows up as weak first few layers long before it shows up as a full detach.

Tip: prime in thin passes, not one heavy coat. A thick coat of surface primer fills chainmail links and face details you just spent an hour printing correctly, and you don't get that detail back once it's buried under paint.

If you're still dialing in exposure times, don't start with the resin that has zero room for error. My original bottle of Siraya Tech Blu has a genuinely forgiving window, wide enough to learn on while the glass-hard detail resins punish every guess.

Hot take: every "best resin" comparison tests a fresh bottle straight off the truck. Nobody mentions how resin behaves after it's sat in your cabinet for eight months. Cure times drift and viscosity changes, and that's the bottle you're actually printing with.
