The purslane flowers (also known as Portulaca) are reddish-orange with a bright yellow center mixed in with the purple flower, Scaevola aemula, commonly known as the fan flower or fairy fan flower. More flower information from plantaddicts.com: “The purslane flowers close completely at night and open back up in the morning. This behavior is a natural response to sunlight and light levels: * Sunlight Reactivity: The blooms typically pop open mid-to-late morning once the sun is bright and high enough, and they begin to fold up in the late afternoon or evening as light fades. * Cloudy Days: Because they are highly sensitive to light, the flowers will often stay completely closed or only partially open on heavily overcast, cloudy, or rainy days. * The "9-to-5" Flower: Because of this strict daylight schedule, gardeners frequently nickname purslane and its close relative, the moss rose (Portulaca), the "9-to-5 flower" or the "10 o'clock.”
