Vitamin A in cod liver oil appears to be in the form of retinol predominantly rather than retinyl esters from what I can tell so, yes, you would be concerned about cod liver oil as a source of toxicity.

no it's just retinol, but it can be made with any number of weaker derivatives like retinyl palmate, you gotta really watch the labels/ingredients otc. tretinoin is pure retinoic acid so you skip the conversion & potency loss of derivative->retinol->retinoic acid

otc retinol by itself has to be converted to retinoic acid to work, and the derivatives like retinyl palmate have to go through that process twice but they still advertise them as "retinol", it's weird. prescription retinol is amazing tho, super recommend if you respond well to otc
