Yip! Turn off your brights! Kobolds have darkvision!
Did you know that we actually have *two* retroreflective bumper stickers by @shikushtaka.bsky.social? They illuminate from headlights at night, just like road signs and your license plate!

You can find both of them here!

At night, light from each approaching vehicle's headlamps strikes the retroreflective buttons and is reflected back towards the eyes of the vehicle's driver.

Make at least the following clear:
1. Retroreflective materials only work when headlights are on.
2. Correct street lighting makes anyone adequately visible.
3. 1 & 2 only work when drivers are paying attention.
4. Using Meta's services for official messages needs to be discontinued.

Cover your frame with retroreflective wrap!

Okay, I can't unsee that first one as being retroreflective tape from a hi-viz vest, and someone trying to get away with a kinky body harness at work because 'no see it's PPE, it's reflective over blaze orange'

And finishing for the night after stuffing a bunch of accordioned cardstock into the "pistons". The back side of each also has a reflecty tape.

The RC car also has autopilot mode where it will seek out targets that show bright in its IR sensors. Any retroreflective tape will probably do, that you can buy at hardware stores or bicycle stores. Worked fine with this one I bought for a Halloween costume years ago

We have to wear hi-vis vests at work.

It's a dumbass rule for dumbasses and I decided to follow the letter of the law and raise a pair of proud middle fingers to the spirit of it, and ordered a BLACK hi-vis vest.
IT HAS RETROREFLECTIVE STRIPES!

I discovered to my delight that the cheap waterproof pac-a-mac I bought in the end-of-season Regatta sale has retroreflective zipper and piping details, which helps. Of course hopefully the cars stay OFF the pavement, but you never know nowadays.

As with the piano the mechanisms work by strategic placement of retroreflective tape so it can tell which control is where and how it is moving

The short answer is: retroreflective tape. Retroreflective tape and paints are a really cool tech that you are probably most familiar with if you ride in cars at night. You know how the text on the street signs looks like its glowing? That is retroflective, bounces light back to toward the source

Retroreflective surface is different than a mirror- if you shine a light at a mirror from an angle the light bounces off the mirror and away from you. But a retroreflector bounces most of its light where ir came from. Great for driving signs because your car's headlights make the text glow.

Optical trackers need retroreflectors to work, and they can get pricey. A cheap(4¢) high-performance DIY option: 1:1:3 vol mix of water:gloss acrylic lacquer:polyvinyl alcohol(PVOH!). Mix, dunk ball, heavy coat of micro-sphere powder, dry 24h, brush off loose powder. Don't wash!

I’m a color freak too! I really wanted a bright blue raincoat that I could iron retroreflective raindrops onto. can NOT find the right raincoat so I did it to a hoodie first 💦

I am very pro graffiti and stickers on signs as long as it doesn't cover any retroreflective material or the inspection sticker.

Sorta like railcars.
I am a huge fan of it, just please don't cover car numbers and information placards or get hurt doing it
(Literally makes my job easier)

White clothes do not make you easier to see on a dark road. NHTSA: "White does not make you more visible at night." On evening walks, carry a flashlight or wear retroreflective gear, and where there is no sidewalk, walk facing traffic.

i mean, i still do all 3 things & i am mostly just too terrified of hitting an invisible person to be angry at them. And everyone wears dark clothes out here (including me). my "shopping" knapsack has retroreflective striping all over it & i wear an LED cat toy (no kidding) on the front of my hoodie
