So Starship Ship 36 just detonated *before* the static fire test - fueled and waiting for the test. Looks like the top tank lets go and sets off the whole stack. It would be bad enough if it let go during the static fire test, but it just blew up. And it's cooking off the fuel tanks on the pad.

of course, the inability to reliably turn your engines on and off (which is what is causing the boostback burn failure) is kind of a bigger issue beyond the impact on reusability

the fans are realizing that they probably won't be able to try for a "catch" on the next test flight, pushing the opportunity for a first complete mission even further out... the whole point of Starship is supposed to be rapid reusability, which doesn't happen until they figure out booster catching

in terms of pure spectacle, that landing was the best show Elon has put on in some time
that said, it also shows that Starship's heat shield is deeply messed up and there is no way they are anywhere close to anything like reusability on this design
