Was reminded of the amazing first days of the 2021 eruption in Iceland when people could almost treat it like a science demonstration or playful feature in a park. Tiny lava output, no explosions, not much gas, barely an hour drive from Reykyavik and moderate hike off a main road.

the Reykyavik food tour with our guide Thor was amazing too. we tried arctic char, fermented shark, geothermally cooked rye bread, many of their national drinks, cod stew, seared horse (from horses who had to be put down), seared lamb, their national lamb hotdogs, rhubarb cobbler and more.

Having intentionally booked a ~18-hour Reykyavik layover last month, yeah, it wasn't the thrill of a lifetime to just spend a few random hours in a strange city. It's still a cute town though. If you're looking for lunch, Mama Reykjavik is a super fun/cute vegan eatery tucked down an alley
