American racists realizing South African racists are too extreme is strange to witness. Bizarrely, white Rhodesians came to the same conclusion in the late 1970s as old internal differences arose about joining South Africa, something rejected in 1923: Rhodesians opted to cede power. I don't get it.

Bo French, the former Tarrant County GOP Chairman who tweeted in January "We Are All Rhodesians," is going to a runoff in the race for Texas Railroad Commissioner (the state's top oil and gas regulator)

we can retire it when Zionists stop being Zionists, in the same vein that 'Rhodesians' stopped being 'Rhodesians', hope that helps

Funnily enough the Rhodesians hated Nazis.
Every 3 or 4 months some Nazi sneaks into r/OldSchoolCool on Reddit and posts videos of 1970’s Rhodesia. There are so many people who no nothing of it, and don’t realize they are seeing segregation and apartheid. Large cultural blind spot. I got a Nazi post banned and removed last night.

One of the baffling things about White Rhodesians was that they *hated* Nazis.

how many neo-Rhodesians does it take to fuck our country up?

White South Africans receiving emergency refugee status arriving at Dulles...
Simple, oppressed farmers...my ass...like the Rhodesians of the 1980s... plantation/mine owners, steal from, enslave, deny basic human rights, you get what you get...
Payback is hell...

Appropriate. Just like the Rhodesians they are going to lose.
This ICE post is a reference to a Rhodesian Army recruiting poster ("Be A Man Among Men") that's very popular with white supremacists.

Ulster Unionists also participated in the same dynamic in reverse - not only openly sympathetic to Israeli settlers but also seeing kinship with white Rhodesians, Apartheid South Africa and the American Confederacy.
You could write books on the subject, but the short answer is: in the 70's and the 80's Irish Republicans saw themselves as part of a common struggle with the PLO, in terms of being a religiously oppressed minority struggling for sovereignty against a stronger, internationally powerful colonizer.
You get a vague sense of the disproportionate excess of the focus on Irish antisemitism from international press just being online but actually trying to go through and catalogue this stuff the sheer volume really is astonishing

My Labour PPC backstory: I grew up in a single parent family on a council estate in East London
My Tory PPC backstory: my grandparents were small businessmen
My Reform PPC backstory: my grandparents came to this country legally
My Restore PPC backstory: I am descended from white Rhodesians
It's quite a fun exercise to try to work out what the most working class and most middle class version of the story of your own social background you could tell. (I could tell wildly different stories about my own social class by picking the biographies of two grandparents - one from each parent.)

The reason why almost everyone despises Rhodesians is they worshipped the British Empire without understanding that the point of that institution was to make a profit and win, rather than embarrass yourselves and lose. The reason Confederates and Nazis love Rhodesians is because they also did that

Confederates 🤝 Rhodesians
Being fucking losers

Actually, 'yes, it's true - I am descended from inferior genetic stock: white Rhodesians!' is such a good bit, I will add it to the rotation.

There is some freak on Twitter who is always banging on about those Rhodesians, and he's blatantly just obsessed with the tiny shorts

White Rhodesians liked to think that black Rhodesians were happy and content with minority rule, something that totally fell apart whenever anyone actually asked the black people what they felt.
Racism Lore is pretty insane when you really dig into it. For example, the stereotype that black people are lazy comes from rednecks being unable to conceive of alternate reasons why the person you enslaved, tore away from her family, and raped would not want to work for you unless forced to do so.

A GOP Nominee for Texas Office Keeps Peddling Fascist Ideas
Bo French was once criticized by members of his party for his offensive posts. Now that he’s the nominee for the Railroad Commission, they’re silent.

The gap between the fantasy world of some pro-Palestinian accounts ("will Jewish Israelis leave like Rhodesians after liberation?") and the reality of 50k Palestinians dead, close to 2m displaced, and more than 100k who left the strip, never ceases to amaze me.

Rhodesia tried to get recognition by inviting a bunch of European diplomats to attend the unveiling of their national anthem. When they found out it was just English lyrics over Ode To Joy their jaws dropped. The Rhodesians thought they would find them sophisticated; they found them Philistines.
Sam Adler-Bell has a good piece on Trump’s nostalgia aesthetic where he specifically brings up how Carmela loves “Con Te Partirò” which is meant to sound like a song from the old country song but is actually a recent cheap knockoff
