Kolkata, June 8 (SocialNews.XYZ) Political circles in West Bengal were abuzz on Monday after former state minister and ex-Kolkata Mayor Firhad Hakim visited the Assembly chamber of Ritabrata Banerjee, leader of the breakaway bloc in the Trinamool Congress legislative party and the Leader of the Opposition, and held a meeting with him. Hakim, a four-time Trinamool Congress legislator from 2011 to date, was seen going to the room allotted to Banerjee within the assembly premises along with another party legislator from the breakaway bloc, Sandipan Saha, and had a meeting with him.

Out of the total 80 Trinamool Congress legislators in the Assembly, 58 have revolted under the leadership of the expelled party legislators Ritabrata Banerjee and Sandipan Saha. On Wednesday, a new resolution, carrying the signatures of these 58 legislators, was submitted in the Assembly, claiming to be the actual representatives of Trinamool Congress. In the resolution, Ritabrata, the Trinamool Congress legislator from Uluberia (Purba) Assembly constituency in Howrah district, has been named as the Leader of Opposition (LoP).

Kolkata, June 3 (SocialNews.XYZ) Ritabrata Banerjee, the expelled Trinamool Congress legislator from Uluberia (Purba) constituency in Howrah district, arrived at the West Bengal Assembly on Wednesday with letters of support from 59 party MLAs, claiming that their faction is the principal opposition party in the state and not the minority group still owing allegiance to former Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee and her nephew Abhishek Banerjee. While Ritabrata entered the Assembly premises at around 10.30 a.m., the party legislators, who had signed the new resolution, started joining him one after another.

Ritabrata Banerjee is nominated by Trinamool Congress for the Rajya Sabha by-elections in Bengal, following Jawhar Sircar’s resignation, with strong support from Mamata and Abhishek Banerjee.
