Always get a little nervous when I take friends on a walk to see the kingfishers that we will not see one.

I need not have worried yesterday as this juvenile sat for quite some time down on the River Lea as we stood watching it.

If you're in Kirikiriroa and in the mood for a sweet treat, you should try Chubby's in Riverlea.

I'd share pics but I already ate it all 😋😋😋

So, so many fish.

No wonder there seem to be around half a dozen kingfishers on the Lea at Hackney Marshes at the moment.

Bobbing kingfishers

Watch as they take it in turn to stand tall trying to intimidate each other.

The town that had grown around it was dying. His wife was sick. His children needed school fees. A man approached him one day, flashed a thick roll of cash, and asked if he was brave.

"I was not brave," Joseph said. "I was desperate. There is a difference."

The old woman in Riverlea saw them first. She had risen before dawn, as she had done for sixty years, to boil water for tea and pray for her children.

An early morning visit to Hackney Marshes and this juvenile was in the same spot as earlier in the week.

Wonderful to now have several youngsters down on the Lea.

A young one

This juvenile landed in front of me very early this morning at Hackney Marshes.

It seemed to follow the adults when they flew by.

Have the pair successfully bred? More investigation needed.

Dawn sighting on the River Lea.

The ringed male kingfisher down on Hackney Marshes.

He loves this spot, it appears to be where he comes to rest up, often sitting for 15-20 mins.

Dawn sighting

The juvenile kingfisher was in their usual spot at first light on Hackney Marshes. He has not yet been driven out by the adult resident male whose territory they are in.
