Lodoss was born of the previous efforts to popularise Basic and Expert Edition D&D in the mid-80s, where it picked up a fair share of fans. One of them being a young Ryo Mizuno.

I've linked the English translations of the Replays of his and his friends adventures with some familiar characters!
A two-page feature that explains what tabletop roleplay is, how it differs from computer RPGs, and what the dice and miniatures are for. They showcase the 'Expert Set' of D&D, and give an overall rundown of how people play a session and how they collectively tell a story.

Kinktober day 8, Roleplay, and we love ourselves some TTRPGS. Dungeons and Dragons, Pathfinder, Starfinder, it's all just an excuse to let dice rolls determine the outcome of what happens to @sommelierofsweets.bsky.social

Roleplay She leaned forward in her chair, hanging on the GM's every word as he spoke, narrating what was happening to her character. “You’ve failed your saves against the spores in the air, and you feel the strength slipping from you. You’re not strong enough to break the ropes the goblins are wrapping around you. You’re too disoriented and clumsy to try and slip free.” She nodded, her dice clutched loosely in her left hand, while he right hand found its way under the table, desperate to scratch that itch having her character defeated, drugged, bound and gagged by goblins created atwixt her legs. A series of bad rolls and perhaps intentionally forgetting to use some abilities that might have kept her out of this situation left her character completely at the mercy of the monsters. And of her GM. “Another goblin climbs on you, using the ropes they’ve thrown around you like a ladder. You’ve lost track of how many are on you. But their weight brings you to your knees, and one of the little creatures holds a sweet smelling cloth over your mouth.” “Uh huh,” she nodded, wiping drool from her lips before it can drop to the paper on the table in front of her, evidence forever on her character sheet of how she salivated over how helpless her character had become, and how much she wished it were her.

My social scenes died on one Persuasion roll. So I built a framework for engaging roleplay. Prep wants, resistance and boundary, frame a trade, let dice tweak terms. Lord Halden example and checklist inside. #TTRPG #Worldbuilding https://codexcryptica.com/answers/how-do-i-make-roleplay-more-engaging

Kinktober 2026 - Day 08: Roleplay
There's always THAT player... and it's Pia.

Official Kinktober account: @kinktober-n-more.bsky.social

#Kinktober2026
Part 1/2 for the sub-series "DnD". Two panel comic. Panel 1 shows Pia standing on a table with DnD equipment spread out (a character sheet, different dice and a bowl with chips). A speech bubble from out of frame says "The Ork bandit leader stands right before you, brandishing his huge two handed axe. What do you do?" Pia is pointing finger guns and saying "I roll for seduction, baby!". Then a groan is coming from out of frame. Panel 2 shows the described scene, with a big half-naked orc guy standing menacingly and a Tiefling girl in a medieval dress pointing finger guns at him.

If this happened to me, I would be hamming it up so hard in character. Fate would feel my blade for having conspired against me so! The first success I rolled would be a major turning point in the campaign. I'd love to have this problem.

(Also... talk to the GM? Play a different game?)
Leaving a game because of bad luck? Discussion So, I've been in a game for about two months and a half, and I'm reaching my limit. I'm lucky to have a good group, and on the roleplay aspect we have a blast. But I dread the moment we start rolling dice. In ten sessions I haven't landed a single hit, succeeded at any non-trivial exploration roll or even got the chance of using any class features. I've gotten one shot critted on the first round of combat, or been so down the initiative that combat is over before getting a turn. And I can handle having bad rolls. I like to keep things light and make failure as funny as possible to get something out of it. But it's been almost three months of it, and it's starting to wear me down. I don't wanna bring bad vibes to the table, but it would feel bad dropping off the game because of something out of the dm's control

DnD DM+ Player Tip: Roleplay the hit

Describe the swing before the roll:
Tell how the monster runs, leaps, and then roll the dice; from there, tell.
Miss: how the teeth get caught on armour, or they manage to dodge.
Success: tell the pain, the bruising, or running out of breath.

1st Panel: Cass, a succubus is on her hands and knees, ass out and wiggling her butt, saying: 'Oh, no~ I hope this Hardcore RolePlay Group doesn’t bully me' in a library, dice on the floor while imagining her self as a Sub, being bullied. 2nd panel, Devora (a mimic person), Jill, a nerdy dm and Steven, in a cat ear baseball cat look at Cass, a mixture of confused and amusement on their faces as they sit at the table, clearly about to play Dungeons and Dragons. Steven says hey. 3rd Panel: Devora eats a dice like a gremlin, Steven asks Jill if he is ok with a 3rd, Jill is like 'ugh, whatever', looking dour and Steven says 'nice, Ill help her with her sheet.' while surrounded by sparkles and hearts

people always talk about how hard it is to roleplay a smart character when you're dumb, but holy shit it can be frustrating to roleplay a character who is dumb when you're smart.

"I know exactly what to say in this scenario but my char definitely wouldn't, and the dice will betray me."

Who Are You When You Roll the Dice? D&D and the Construction of the Self
Each character begins its journey the same way. A blank page. A pencil. A silent question. Who do you want to be for the next few hours, months, maybe even years? People assume that it's all just a formality: choose a race and class, roll up some statistics, let's move on to more interesting things. But observe someone making a character and you will notice something else happening.
