Am 16. Mai 1944 erhoben sich sich die Häftlinge des Z…lagers in Auschwitz. Sie bewaffneten sich mit Steinen u verbarrikadierten sich in den Baracken. D SS sah sich gezwungen, wieder abzuziehen. D Aufstand der Sinti* u Roma* verzögerte d Liquidation des Lagers für mehrere Wochen.

16.5.1944 Aufstand von Sinti & Roma in Auschwitz gg ihre Vergasung.

Die sog. Liquidierung (Romanes: "Porajmos") des „Zigeuner-Lagers“ wird bis Juli unterbrochen.

Am 2./3.8. 1944 werden 2.897 Männer, Frauen, Kinder getötet, das Lager „aufgelöst“.
Das letzte Bild der deportierten Settela Steinbach in einem Waggon, sie wurde am am 2./3.8.1944 in Auschwitz ermordet. Sinti und Roma im sog. Zigeunerlager. Am 16.5.2944 erschienen sie nicht zum Morgenappell, verbarrikadierten sich in den Baracken. Mit Schaufeln, Spaten, u.a. Werkzeug aus dem Ausrüstungslager bewaffnet, eingebrochen, hatten sie mit Hämmern, Spitzhacken und Schaufeln Holzteile der Kojen zerlegt, um aus ihnen Waffen herzustellen.
