Roman mosaic glass bead necklace, dated circa 1st Century CE Composed of thirty-two beads in bright colours ~ spherical, disc-shaped, rectangular and drop-shaped, seventeen with faces, three encircled by lotus flowers, two with petalled flowers, two with Nilotic birds in profile, one millefiori bead, and eight with geometric designs, on a green, white, red or blue ground, interspersed with rectangular opaque orange glass beads and small, spherical blue and white millefiori beads The necklace measures 82cm long and has been restrung with a modern hook-and-loop closure Sold at auction by Christies, December 2007
