#PontiusPilate in #Scotland? 🌳 Legend says he was born & played under the Fortingall Yew in Perthshire before returning to Rome.
His name is confirmed on the Pilate Stone in Caesarea.

Happy 163rd birthday to James Curle 🎂
Born #OTD 27 March 1862 in Melrose, Curle led the excavations at Trimontium (1905–1910) and published A Roman Frontier Post and its People (1911), a landmark in Roman frontier studies. Still widely cited today.

Lilia pits at Rough Castle Roman Fort on the Antonine Wall, near Bonnybridge in central Scotland. The pits were a defensive measure (each containing a sharpened stake) that would have helped defend the northern approach to the fort. 📸 My own #RomanFortThursday #RomanScotland

#Spearheads found at #Trimontium ranging in shape & size, from 14" to 4¼". 80-180AD. Image 4 shows one particular example featuring a punctured inscription. #Roman soldiers often marked objects with their names to prove ownership.
