If you ever go visit Rome and go see the spot Caesar got got, it's a really great bonus that it's currently a sanctuary for feral cats like this one, who get to laze about in the crumbling remnants of a fallen empire. As we all do, these days.

NEW VIDEO! Investigating Elon Musk's very weird claims (based off of no evidence) about the Fall of Rome and birth rates led me down a very strange rabbit hole that shows how his catastrophic view of history informs the decisions he makes

Second: All the scholarship about competitive authoritarianism is based off weaker states. There's no precedent (Rome? China?) for a hegemon failing at the rate Trump is headed, much less committing suicide.

Roman history books tell you all about this complex liberty-based political system of checks and balances and then proceed to "Brutus Maximus was not allowed to be consul so he made up the job of superconsul 2 and then bribed everyone in Rome until it was real. Cicero was mad"

Based Trad guys don’t know history obviously but even the idea of national languages is relatively recent - in France at the revolution only half the population spoke French. The HRE had many languages. In Ancient Rome at the bare minimum an aristocrat had to be bilingual
Vance says it is "totally reasonable and acceptable" for people to not want to live next door to people who speak a different language than they do
