The Philippine Army welcomed 445 new recruits during a closing ceremony for the Candidate Soldier Course (CSC) Classes 808 and 809-2026 held at Camp O'Donnell in Capas, Tarlac on October 23, 2026. A fraudulent visa scheme in Dubai has defrauded approximately 400 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) of AED 3.6 million (P61.7 million), leaving many in severe financial and legal distress. The scam involved two alleged suspects, Junie Sorsano and Ryan Ronel Baco, who operated a company called Trip Expert Business and Marketing Solutions, offering 'legitimate and legal' freelance visa packages priced at AED 9,000 per applicant. The company bypassed standard Philippine government safeguards, including contract verifications by the Migrant Workers Office (MWO) and the Overseas Employment Certificate (OEC), as well as the UAE-prescribed electronic salary transfer system. Victims reported that the suspects fled the UAE in early September, leaving the company's Dubai office closed and unreachable. Many victims paid for the visas using personal savings or high-interest loans, only to discover the company had disappeared after abruptly removing its digital presence. The Philippine Consulate General in Dubai is investigating the case, with plans to involve Interpol for potential extradition of the suspects. Consul General Ambrosio Brian Enciso III confirmed that victims are receiving legal consultations and guidance on required documentation. Several victims shared their stories, highlighting how they trusted the company due to its Filipino ownership and social media presence. Fatima, a victim who paid AED 9,000 in May, stated that she had been waiting for five months for her visa to be processed, with her grace period expired and her bank account frozen. She expressed the emotional toll of the scam, saying she could barely sleep or eat properly due to the stress. The scam's impact has been significant, with victims facing fines for overstaying and being unable to send money home to their families. The Philippine Consulate is working to provide support to affected OFWs, emphasizing the need for caution when dealing with visa services offered by companies claiming to be run by Filipinos. The case has drawn attention to the vulnerability of OFWs to scams, particularly those that exploit trust in fellow nationals. The Consulate has urged victims to report any further incidents and to seek assistance through official channels. The company's digital creators, Abdul Hamid Bandon and Enrico Cardoniga, have denied involvement in the scam, stating that their vlogging careers have been severely damaged by the controversy. This case represents one of the largest visa fraud cases in the UAE in recent years, highlighting the need for stronger oversight of visa services targeting OFWs.
