One person. One dog. One tea table.
A pot of Rou Gui — cinnamon, honey, mineral depth. Incense burning down to dust. Dusk to deep night.
This is the whole evening. And it’s exactly enough. 🍵

Mud and Leaves made their first foray into Wuyi Rock Tea in 2025. This Xiaozhulin Rougui Wuyi Rock Oolong a nice slightly floral, lower oxidation expression of the style.

Wuyi Star’s “Four Ounces, A Thousand Jin” — a Rougui oolong from the legendary Jiulong Ke and Niulankeng terroirs. Bold, layered, unforgettable. 🍵⚡️

#TeaTarot Well it’s a new moon and another sample of rock oolong tea tasting. The sample is from White2Tea February box. This tea is so smooth, a thick soup and definitely has that mineral tang to it. I am amazed it went for 6 steeps on 3 gr in a 100 mL gaiwan.

#2 Rougui from W2T club. First time using the tasting set, not sure if I'm using it properly. Seems like a tall gaiwan. We got some minerality here in the background, and some mild malty sweetness, strong rock flavor there on the front of the tongue. Juicy round mouthfeel. Little bit of poached pear

two rouguis today - "mi tuo yan" and "frog meat". i enjoy tastings immediately after one another, because they imbue each other with context. mty - bright, fragrant, a bit acidic, sweet. frog - dark, thick, smooth. both are characteristically rougui, but i still don't get "cinnamon"

daxue jiadao guoxiang rougui, from yesterday. unsuited for gongfu (aggressive) brewing, but still interesting in this session. wood, spice, no sweetness, slight astrigency, great texture. im going to enter a rougui training arc

@onerivertea.bsky.social daily rougui

nice simple yancha. goes well western style and gongfu style. soft, sweet, no harshnesses even at high ratio (not here). roast feels correct. aroma fills the room

Ah, I've seen Way Choy. The tough black leaves are indicative of high roasting. You might enjoy the category of tea named Yancha (da hong pao, shuixian, rougui, tieluohan, etc) if you enjoyed that one.

here's an interesting thread that actually goes into the nitty gritty of rougui and shuixian today:

I realise now I just repeated myself twice with the exact same wording, ouch. Low roast shuixian is nicer to me than low roast rougui, tlh, etc. High roast beats other high roasts. It tends to be more consistent in my experience, and I find very little motive to try much else as a result now

I'm really a shuixian loyalist at heart, so sadly that rougui wasn't to my taste
