These themed routers are surprisingly (inexplicably) capable, but they are under threat by the FCC.

Asus's ROG Rapture GT-BN98 Pro arrives as one of the first Wi-Fi 8 routers, featuring quad-band support and dual 10 Gbps ports. Wi-Fi 8 promises stability and low latency rather than just speed, but the ecosystem to fully leverage it is still catching up.

Our mesh routers keep dropping connections because we’ve got a 2 pack and each node only supports a maximum of 15 devices.

Meaning I have to unplug a picture frame if I want to watch TV.

It’s 2026. What are we, farmers?

There are a few jobs involved -- adding/replacing servers, cabling, routers and switches. Not nearly enough to justify the nuisance, though -- especially given that the AI boom is doomed to failure anyway

Currently removing French from one of my routers by running 'rm -fr / --no-preserve-root' (to make sure that no French roots are left in other languages either)

Or like how all IPs starting 240-255 were "reserved for future use" because IPv4 wanted to get ahead of any new functionality that might exist... but all the routers were then manually programmed to reject incoming traffic for them so it's now impossible to reactivate them without fixing them all

wtf is up with the government's war on routers?

The Minions routers are from a company called Davolink, and they're actually very capable routers that support Wi-Fi 6 and 6E.

Feeling personally attacked by the recommendation to buy OpenWRT routers. Bitch please. As if I don't already.

Recientemente, se identificó una vulnerabilidad crítica en varios modelos de routers de Netgear. Esta brecha permite a un atacante que ya tiene acceso a la red ejecutar comandos maliciosos en el dispositivo.

Again. Learn to isolate your devices on your network, most home routers have some sort of setting. Update firmware. Don't trust all your smart devices! Televisions ARE spying on your activity and AI based hackers are the 2020s versions of 90s script kiddies.

Wi‑Fi smart devices disconnect when routers hit connection limits or devices can’t reliably join the correct Wi‑Fi band, requiring router upgrades or network setup changes.

people who are willing to exert some minor effort can do way better on the cost front, too. those routers are dumb.

I agree: OP is exaggerating. Yes, cooperation and freedom were how we got the basic protocols, but the build-out was largely driven by profit motive. *This post* got to everyone else's eyes through commercially owned cables and routers running proprietary software, and would not have otherwise.

Well who do you think taught that age group how to use computers? Who set up the computers, modems, routers, etc? When I finished college in 1985, my job was to figure out how to use PCs & the software. I was there at the beginning.
