Imperial Ledger (Catherine the Great)

Prompt in ALT

#aiart #blueskyart #digitalart #aicommunity #historicalportrait #royalportrait #eighteenthcentury #palaceinterior #windowlight #fineartportrait

A standing portrait of Catherine the Great in an ornate palace interior, positioned beside a polished curved wooden writing table with one hand resting on a document and the other relaxed at her side, wearing a pale silver-blue silk gown with structured bodice seams, embroidered floral detailing, layered lace cuffs and neckline trim, a soft blue sash crossing the torso, pearl drop earrings, a jeweled hair ornament, and a star-shaped imperial order pinned at the chest. Her powdered hair is arranged in a high formal style, her face turned slightly toward frame left with a calm neutral expression, while a quill, inkwell, papers, and small metal seal rest across the tabletop. Tall draped windows at frame left admit broad daylight, producing soft directional illumination across the face, bodice, and hands, gentle shadow shaping along the sleeves and skirt folds, and controlled highlights on the silk, lace, jewelry, and varnished wood. Medium full portrait framing at eye level, 85mm lens at f/4, focus held on the eyes, sash, embroidered bodice, and nearest hand, with gilded wall panels, framed artwork, and dark furnishings easing into a mild background blur; restrained palette of silver blue, ivory, pearl, muted gold, and warm mahogany, natural skin texture, crisp lace detail, subtle silk sheen, and smooth highlight rolloff.

Sandstone Regalia (Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahri)

Prompt in ALT

#aiart #blueskyart #digitalart #aicommunity #ancientegypt #historicalportrait #templeportrait #desertlight #royalportrait #fineartportrait

A standing portrait of Hatshepsut at Deir el-Bahri, positioned beside a pale sandstone column in a long temple colonnade, wearing a softly pleated ivory linen dress with a gathered waist, a broad collar of blue, turquoise, and gold beadwork, matching blue and gold bracelets, and a blue linen headdress secured with a gold brow band and a raised cobra ornament. Her posture is upright and composed, one hand resting against the stone pier while the other gathers a fold of the dress, her face turned toward frame left with a calm neutral expression and defined kohl-lined eyes. Repeating columns recede into the background along a sunlit walkway, with weathered desert cliffs and temple architecture visible beyond, grounding the scene in warm stone, dry air, and monumental scale. Strong desert daylight enters from the open colonnade, creating bright sun across the paving and columns, soft reflected fill across the face and torso, gentle shadow contour along the right side of the figure, and controlled highlights on the beadwork, bracelets, and linen folds. Vertical medium portrait framing at eye level, 85mm lens at f/4, focus held on the eyes, collar, and front plane of the dress, with the receding colonnade and distant cliffs easing into a soft blur; warm sandstone, ivory, muted blue, oxidized gold, and sun-baked ochre tones, visible linen texture, natural skin detail, worn stone surfaces, restrained saturation, and smooth highlight rolloff.

Blue Diadem (Queen Nefertiti)

Prompt in ALT

#aiart #blueskyart #digitalart #aicommunity #historicalportrait #ancientegypt #royalportrait #editorialportrait #windowlight #fineartportrait

A three-quarter seated portrait of Queen Nefertiti wearing a tall matte blue crown with worn edges, a broad gold forehead band, turquoise and ochre inlays, and a small raised cobra ornament, paired with a layered collar of turquoise, carnelian, lapis-toned beads, and polished gold spacers over a finely pleated ivory linen dress. Her posture is upright and composed, one forearm resting on a dark wooden table while the other hand settles across her lap, her face turned slightly toward frame right with a calm neutral expression and sharply defined eye makeup. The setting is a restrained plaster interior with softly mottled walls, a woven reed blind over a window at frame left, and a low wooden chest receding into the background. Broad daylight filters through the blind, producing soft directional illumination across her face and shoulders, gentle shadow falloff beneath the crown and jaw, small highlights on the beaded collar, and warm reflected light from the room. Medium-format portrait framing with an 85mm lens at f/4, eye-level camera position, focus held across the eyes, crown ornament, and front rows of beadwork, with the wall and furnishings easing into a mild background blur; warm sandstone, ivory, deep blue, turquoise, oxidized gold, and carnelian tones, natural skin texture, visible linen fibers, subtle surface wear, restrained saturation, and smooth highlight rolloff.

A dark-skinned king sits facing forward in a shadowed throne room, his expression stern, composed, and unwavering. A towering blackened metal crown rises from his head in sharp, irregular spires, its weathered surface set with deep red gemstones. Warm candle flames glow softly behind the crown, creating points of golden light against the dark interior. The king wears an immense black fur mantle over richly ornamented garments. Layers of gold chains, dark jewels, beads, pendants, and sculpted metallic ornaments cover his chest in extravagant abundance. Small skull-like decorations and intricate clasps emerge among the jewelry. His broad shoulders fill the lower frame, while blurred carved stone figures stand at either side, giving the portrait the solemn symmetry of a royal court. Low-key lighting catches the textures of metal, fur, gemstones, and skin while much of the surrounding chamber remains in darkness. The close, slightly low viewpoint emphasizes authority and physical presence, creating the impression of a ruler whose power is ancient, absolute, and unquestioned.

Spider Queen

Drawn for Dimitris Pantazis' weekly drawing challenge over on his patreon.
This was a nice homage to the infestation of black widows in my backyard. 😅

#art #spider #blackwidow #arachnid #queen #royalportrait

A drawing of a giant black widow spider with a red crown sitting belly-up in her web. She is holding a (much smaller) person wrapped up in webs. There are other wrapped up figures of humans throughout the web.

A closer up detail shot of the spider queen. This image shows her face in more detail. It is glowing green. Her mouth is open and there is some saliva between her teeth and mandibles. She is holding a human figure wrapped in spider webs within feet of her mouth.

“H.H. The Maharani of Indore” by Bernard Boutet de Monvel (French) - Oil on canvas / c. 1934 - Musée des Arts Décoratifs (Paris, France) #WomenInArt #artText #artwork #BernardBoutetdeMonvel #Monvel #BoutetdeMonvel #AlThaniCollection #MuseeDesArtsDecoratifs #ArtDeco #RoyalPortrait #PortraitofaWoman

Her Highness Maharani Sanyogita Devi of Indore was born Princess Sanyogita of Kagal, who with her husband Maharaja Yeshwant Rao Holkar II helped turn Manik Bagh (their “Jewel Garden” palace) into a celebrated Art Deco showpiece filled with cutting-edge European design. Educated in England and photographed by Man Ray, she moved with ease between Indian court protocol and avant-garde Paris. French artist Bernard Boutet de Monvel captures that duality with a traditional sari and a cascade of flowers, yet her frontal pose, flattened space, and crisp geometry are pure modernism.

The young Indian maharani stands on a dark platform, directly facing us. Her medium-brown skin, oval face, and neat centre-parted black hair frame a poised but unsmiling expression, her dark eyes meeting ours with steady intensity and her lips painted deep red. She wears a luminous lime-yellow sari with a finely patterned gold border and the sheer pallu drawn over her head and across one arm so we glimpse a richly embroidered black and gold bodice and turquoise short sleeves beneath. Her right hand rests on her hip while the left gathers a fold of fabric at her waist as red-polished nails catching the light.

Around her neck sits a diamond-and-emerald necklace with two monumental pear-shaped diamonds, echoed by matching earrings, bracelet, ring, and a slim watch. She stands in elegant sandals, surrounded on three sides by white ornamental pots bursting with palms, lilies, chrysanthemums, and marigolds, all set against a pale, nearly blank background that makes her figure and jewels read with extraordinary clarity. The dazzling necklace incorporates the famous “Indore Pears” diamonds, signalling both dynastic wealth and the couple’s enthusiasm for contemporary jewelry.

Sanyogita died in 1937 in her early twenties, and her unflinching gaze here preserves the image of a young woman whose taste, confidence, and curiosity helped redefine what Indian royalty could look like in the 1930s.
