The theme for this year’s Black History Month is a celebration of Art and Black Artists. Attached is a painting by Rozeal, formerly known as Iona Rozeal Brown. Titled “afro.died,T.”, (pronounced Aphrodite) it is done in acrylic, pen, ink, marker, and graphite on a birch plywood panel. 2011.

I went this exhibit at the Schirn Kunsthalle of art inspired by hip-hop. It focused on the U.S., but also showed some of how the culture has spread and adapted around the globe. The exhibit provided a lot of good context to the work and to hip hop culture in general.
