This is my Commodore VIC-1011A. It is an RS232C (terminal type) adapter that plugs into the VIC-20 or C64’s user port. It outputs true RS232 voltages which allows many RS232 peripherals to be connected such as a RS232 modem. #C64 #Commodore64 #Commodore #VIC20

... it's a max3232. yep. it's just RS232. i'm so used to "serial" being "a logic level UART" that i got spooked by a completely ordinary 5V level RS232 ;w;

When I asked a while back what multi-port hdmi splitter to buy, and everyone suggested tesmart - you were all correct. I've had mine for a year and it 100% still works, auto-swaps inputs, responds to physical button presses, the whole nine. a product that does what it says is a miracle in 2025.

When I asked a while back what multi-port hdmi splitter to buy, and everyone suggested tesmart - you were all correct. I've had mine for a year and it 100% still works, auto-swaps inputs, responds to physical button presses, the whole nine. a product that does what it says is a miracle in 2025.

I'm winding down an astrophysics lab at work.
I found an IBM ThinkPad 600X connected via RS232 to one of the fiber SANs. It runs Windows XP SP2. I found the password and logged in.
This computer has been sitting there, on, for 2,585 days (7.08 years).
Its battery still holds a charge!

I'm winding down an astrophysics lab at work.

I guess people did use a ZX81 with a modem. Maplins published a modem kit, and here is their RS232 interface - potentially more useful these days.
