Many thanks as ever for organising, John and what a wonderful album to finish 2025 with. Wishing you and everyone in the chat a very happy Christmas. #rubbersoul60

There's that early "laughing version" of And Your Bird Can Sing that sounds like it could have worked on Rubber Soul, but when the finished version could only have fit on Revolver. #rubbersoul60

Run For Your Life - lyrically nasty after such a beautiful run of largely compassionate Lennon songs. But just aping a familiar blues / rock and roll trope. Musically I love it! The guitar is great, presaging the sound of The Monkees six months early? #rubbersoul60

The Byrds influence is wonderful all the way through the album. It's why I think we were all staggered when George said during Anthology that the Rubber Soul / Revolver sessions all ran into one in his mind. The guitar sound on Revolver is so, so different and heavier. #rubbersoul60

The harmonies are glorious. To quote Paul or George during the sessions for Real Love - "it sounds like the Beatles!"

Wait, written for the Help! sessions, definitely worth the err... wait.

I'll get my coat...

In My Life, one of the finest songs John Lennon ever wrote. It's that good. Sadly has an added poignancy since 1980 that its author could never have imagined. John had already experienced such loss when he wrote this aged 25 though. #rubbersoul60

They really are. Especially combined with You Won't See Me and We Can Work It Out. Musically, I love it though. I'm rather fond of the Anthology version too. #rubbersoul60

Girl - Lennon's voice exposed and sounding all the better for it. The vulnerability sells an already great song. Love the solo. #rubbersoul60

What Goes On, the only filler here? But perfectly realised. Always nice to see Ringo indulge his love for country. He gets a songwriting credit for suggesting a couple of words, while George missed after providing far more musical input into And I Love Her and She Said, She Said, etc #rubbersoul60

Michelle, if only its author would tell us the story of how he wrote this? #rubbersoul60

The Word - All You Need Is Love 18 months early. Fantastic bluesy number. John really was on fire on this album. #rubbersoul60

Is that the fuzzbox on Think For Yourself? Great sound, really gritty, provides a nice counterbalance to the sweeter harmonies. #rubbersoul60

Nowhere Man. Perfection. Reflective, truthful lyrics, chiming guitar, gorgeous harmonies. #rubbersoul60

It's so bouncy and the backing vocals are great. Motown vibes for sure. Not sure if the lyrics paint its author in the best light, something we'll come back to later, I expect. #rubbersoul60

Norwegian Wood, first of four or five absolutely top tier Lennon songs on the album. And the sound of a band laying down a marker with the sitar hinting at even greater studio experimentation. #rubbersoul60

You're right! I'd forgotten all about that. #rubbersoul60

Paul kicking things off with his blues voice. Not top tier Beatles, but always huge fun to listen to. Works really well in Paul's live sets. Nice set up lyrically before the pay-off / joke at the end. #rubbersoul60
