I've concluded that Ramia, Zenith Dragon, Celestria, & Lutiana are the best Dragon Quest gods in the sense they actually do something beneficial (*cough* Zenus sucks).

I tried my best to use a guide as little as possible but I found all the crests and got Rubiss’ Charm. I think tomorrow I can actually beat this game… I certainly hope so because I need to pull myself out of the hole this game has put me in the last several days.

Yes, Rubiss is the god. Zenith Dragon is a powerful, but ultimately mortal good guy. At least that's the picture that emerges once DQ6 ties the first six games together. And Xenlon is a Dragon Ball cameo inserted as a bonus boss in one of the remakes. :)

I like how the HD2D remake characterizes the DQ1 Protagonist as kind of a dunderhead who seems to always introduce himself as a Descendant Of The Hero Erdrick sent on a mission to save the land of Alefgard by the Goddess Rubiss herself

It was admittedly just a fun idea, but how cool would it have been if DQ13, Flames of Fate told the story of how Rubiss went from mortal hero to Mother of Alefgard (and possibly the goddess that churches pray to)?
