Rules gotcha: commander tax only counts times you cast that commander from the command zone. If it gets bounced to your hand and you cast it from there, no extra 2. The command zone is what matters.

Rules gotcha: split second is not a time stop. Krosan Grip stops spells and most activated abilities, but triggered abilities still happen, and mana abilities still work. https://grimdeck.com/card/c21/198/krosan-grip #MTG #Commander #EDH #RulesGotcha #MTGRules #JudgeCalls #KrosanGrip

Rules gotcha: if your commander dies or gets exiled, it actually hits that zone before you can move it back to the command zone. That means death triggers and exile triggers still see it. #MTG #Commander #EDH #RulesGotcha #MTGRules #JudgeCalls #CommandZone

Rules gotcha Thursday: if your commander would die or get exiled, you choose whether to move it to the command zone right then. It does not hit the graveyard first for death triggers or reanimation lines. This still catches pods. #MTG #Commander #EDH #RulesGotcha #MTGRules #CommandZone #ThursdayTips

Rules Gotcha Tuesday: Copies of spells aren't "cast." That means Rhystic Study won't trigger, storm count stays the same, and magecraft doesn't fire. Your Twincast is sneakier than you think.

Tuesday rules gotcha: Trample + Deathtouch only needs 1 damage per blocker. Deathtouch makes any damage lethal, so the rest tramples over. Block my 6/6 with five 5/5s? 1 damage kills each, 1 still hits you.

Rules gotcha: when a creature phases out, it does not leave the battlefield. Counters stay on it, Auras and Equipment stay with it, and leave-the-battlefield triggers do not happen. #MTG #Commander #EDH #RulesGotcha #MTGRules #Phasing #JudgeCalls

Rules gotcha: if someone steals your commander and it dies, you decide whether it goes back to the command zone, not the player who controlled it. Ownership matters here, and it comes up more than people think. #MTG #Commander #EDH #RulesGotcha #MTGRules #TheftEffects #CommandZone

Rules gotcha: if your commander gets turned face down, it is still your commander. It can still deal commander damage, and if it leaves the battlefield you can still send it to the command zone. Morph games get weird fast. #MTG #Commander #EDH #RulesGotcha #MTGRules #Morph #CommanderDamage

Rules gotcha Tuesday: Phasing does not cause ETB or LTB triggers. Your creature never left, it just phased out. Auras and equipment stay attached too. This one trips up a lot of tables.\n\n#MTG #Commander #EDH #RulesGotcha #MTGRules #TuesdayTips #Phasing

Rules gotcha: hexproof only stops targeting. Board wipes, sacrifice effects, and edicts still get around it. Your slippery commander is safe from spot removal, not from the whole table getting swept.\n\n#MTG #Commander #EDH #RulesGotcha #MagicRules #Removal #TableTalk

Rules gotcha: deathtouch + trample = you only assign 1 damage per blocker. The rest tramples through. Throw a Rancor on your Nighthawk Scavenger and watch the table do a double take.

🔍 Rules Gotcha: Vincent, Vengeful Atoner's Chaos ability deals NON-combat damage. It won't trigger "combat damage" effects but WILL trigger "loses life" abilities!
