About 24 hours away from Hurricane Melissa hitting Runaway Bay directly. Deceptively quiet. #runawaybay #jamaica #strandedbywestjet #hurricanemelissa

Winds are starting to pick up, but still relatively calm. Insane to see the images coming from the southern coast of Jamaica. #strandedbywestjet #hurricanemelissa #runawaybay #jamaica

Currently with my family in the auditorium where everyone is supposed to evacuate to. Path of hurricane seems to be shifting back closer to us. #strandedbywestjet #hurricanemelissa #jamaica #runawaybay

Checking in. People are keeping busy chatting in the auditorium. Cannot hear what’s happening outside. Does not look like Melissahas made landfall yet.

Melissa is taking her time to hit land. Hope she changes her mind and leaves Jamaica altogether. Resort management postponing evacuation to central area until tomorrow morning. Family is going to rest up for what tomorrow brings. #strandedbywestjet #hurricanemelissa #jamaica #runawaybay

I keep checking this app. This morning it looked like the path was going directly through the resort. Seems to be moving westward. Hoping it keeps moving west and avoids landfall altogether. #strandedbywestjet #hurricanemelissa #runawaybay #jamaice

Not exactly feeling at ease yet, but grateful to see Melissa exit the island. Resort still has us sheltering in place. We’re not completely in the clear yet.
Melissa’s movement has not followed the projections.

At the rate she is currently moving, hurricane melissa probably won’t hit land for another few hours. The entertainment team at this resort is working overtime to keep everyone joyful. #strandedbywestjet #hurricanemelissa #jamaica #runawaybay

Still waiting for #hurricanemelissa to hit land. Unclear whether that has happened. Grateful for the organization of the resort who just finished serving lunch. They have beds and cribs in the hallway for the elderly and babies.

Nothing new to report. The resort showed some footage of what it looks like outside. Very windy and rainy, but akin to a bag storm.

Only a few places on the resort where wifi signal is present. Some workers have been able to get access to digicel.

Message from my aunty who went to check on my parents
All is good with mum and dad.
A lot of water came into the house and part of the tile above the garage came off but we give thanks 🙏🏽 🇯🇲🇯🇲 #runawaybay

Resort boarded up windows on main level. Behind these boards is the main buffet where everything seems normal. The staff is going above and beyond to keep everyone calm and positive. #strandedbywestjet #hurricanemelissa #jamaica #runawaybay

A different view. If you zoom in to the right of the structure you will see homes behind the trees. I’ve been to this resort 3 times before and never noticed them. #stillstrandedbywestjet #hurricanemelissa #jamaica #runawaybay

#RunawayBay #Jamaica I am so lucky that I am able to be with my love unplugged and not even thinking a little bit about work or graduate school or other people’s children even a little bit. Adults-only resorts are the way for educators to go #edusky
