Thanks to everyone emailing about the impact of Texas SB20 on manga & anime. We fought to keep this bill from being passed, but the TX legislature was locked in - no one wanted to risk opposing the bill publicly. We're working on next steps.

In Denver alone the PD has paid out about 30 million in settlements since 2020 for gravely injuring people with less lethals. It's part of reason we passed SB 217. Supposedly now there must be a supervisor on scene to authorize use. leg.colorado.gov/bills/sb20-217

It’s slightly more complex than that, the bill SB20 is stating to outright criminalize ownership of any material that shows “sexualization of a minor”, but the language is so broad that it includes things from LGBT books to Shakespearian plays to, yes, anime with High Schoolers getting into mischief

Deleted a post about Abbott vetoing a bill expanding the criminal code re deepfakes for unclear reasons, as it now seems likely that it was because the bill was duplicative of something already included in SB20. Will update once we get more info on his rationale.

Texas SB20? Oh God. Banning drawings and art that can be assumed as obscene towards a minor? I don't like Lolis, but even I can see this being a bad idea. Meanwhile, if we see shit like Cuties, OnlyFans, and Roblox go unchecked while SB20 bans media, then this isn't "protecting kids" as claimed.
