Pygame do specifically force a software renderer by default

SDL2 defaults to GPU with CPU fallback.
September 27, 2026 at 5:49 PM
Well, pygame by default uses software rendering despite using SDL2.
September 27, 2026 at 5:43 PM
If you're using SDL2 onward, you're likely using graphics card and not pure software rendering.

Incredible and disturbingly familiar.

Which window manager are you using? I've run into this issue only when doing jank SDL2 stuff in wlroots, but the mainline wayland compositor KDE usually handles window layers without issue in single-monitor.
