In order to accept any foreign students, universities must be enrolled in the Student and Exchange Visitor Program, which is certified by DHS.
If universities break the law, they can have their SEVP certification taken away. The allegations DHS makes here are absurdly pretextual.

The article doesn’t explain the mechanics of this. Does govt have to approve such programs? Or does it mean they won’t issue visas for these students?

Nothing in the regulations permits a discretionary termination of SEVP Certification, meaning DHS tortured the regulations to find a naked pretext for this action.

The injunction is against disenrolling Harvard from SEVP. This new action won't prevent them from _having_ foreign students. It would prevent their students from entering, but it wouldn't affect the students who are already here who would continue to be covered by that prior injunction.

Harvard just handed all school and disciplinary records of international students to DHS. Absolutely contemptible. They're putting their own students in danger and lying by telling them that everything is ok. These students could be black bagged to Louisiana or El Salvador after this.

Okay but in addition to just being cruel this upends the entire graduate school educational ecosystem. i know I said these people have literally no understanding of how knowledge is produced & think they can just Have Best Stuff while simultaneously degrading & dismantling academic research, but jfc

Harvard won't clarify and it's an almost certainty that if they didn't send everything in the DHS letter, DHS would revoke the SEVP certification rendering all Harvard international students without legal status. So it's more likely than not that they complied than did some narrow compliance.

It looks like Harvard designated this as a related case case because the SEVP revocation is part of a pattern of retaliation against Harvard as punishment for its alleged activities

If Harvard is not a SEVP certified school students are ineligible to attend on the visa they have. That’s different than revoking the visa.

I want to address this directly: despite Berkeley's spotty-at-best reputation, they don't have any choice here but to "pause" the endorsement of F-1 CPT Course Credit Internships. Last year, DHS revoked Harvard's ability to accept *any* international student because of pro-Palestinian protests.
