C31 / IC 405 / Sh2-229 The Flaming Star Nebula - telescope processed image. It’s a rare mix of a red emission nebula (ionized gas) and a blue reflection nebula (starlight bouncing off cosmic dust). C31 / IC 405 / Sh2-229 The Flaming Star Nebula - unprocessed image. The central star, AE Aurigae, wasn't born here; it’s a high-speed "runaway" likely ejected from Orion millions of years ago.
