Hey, you’re entitled to your opinions, but the intersection where Ms Simai was killed has gotten multiple upgrades to improve pedestrian safety in past 7 months. Pretending the City has had no positive response to that tragedy is simply false.

So that’s not exactly accurate. The city put in flex posts shortly after the Simai was killed to narrow Elliott. And they’re working on more here and elsewhere through the city

I'd note the city very quickly put down RRFBs & channelizers at 1st to make it significantly safer after Mamawa Simai was killed, so it's by no means ignoring the problem as some news reports (many of which incorrectly said she was killed at 2nd) suggested. But 2nd is a different, trickier problem.

the guerrilla crosswalk in question grinds my gears, because it recreates the conditions that killed mamawa simai: a crosswalk over a fast road with no traffic calming. let staff fix the intersection properly, with both a crosswalk and traffic calming—which is what they did at elliott and 1st.

No. That's Elliott/1st, where Mamawa Simai was killed — that crosswalk has now been substantially upgraded with RRFBs and narrowed traffic lanes. This chalk crosswalk was put a block away at Elliott/2nd.

It doesn’t mention that Simai was killed in a crosswalk. The logic of the story indicated Cox was putting in a crosswalks that would have prevented her death and that the city was blocking that. That isn’t true.
