Since it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas outside, here is a thread of photos from my holiday trip to the Biltmore Estate with its festive Christmas decor.
A large gingerbread house sitting in the kitchen in the basement of the house. This is where the servants would make food for guests, run similar to a restaurant kitchen in scale and activeness. Copper pans hang above the large table, sinks were to the left, the door at the back, and stove to the right. In the 1920s, John Cecil took over the Biltmore and held an extravagant New Years party in the basement. His guests painted the walls in somewhat halloweenish designs with black cats and witches. Possibly to fit the theme? Here is a spring sldesign of a blue manor house with tulips and trees in bloom A cabinet found in one of the corridors with designs of women on them and beautiful carved spiral designs in the wood Garland dresses the banister leading up to the attic rooms. Each set of windows has a small door which opens to one foot wide cement stairway for maintaining the outside of the house. Large iron chandeliers hang in a row down the center of the stairwell, which would have real candles but are now electrically lit.
