Californians are beginning to see benefits on their CalFresh cards now.

Once again, the Speaker of the House of Representatives lied.

SNAP/CalFresh has consistently been funded during government shutdowns.

NEW: At the request of @governor.ca.gov Gavin Newsom, Cal Guard members and teams from Cal Volunteers have begun their work to assist food banks across the state in response to Trump’s prolonged government shutdown cutting off access to federally funded food benefits and support like SNAP/CalFresh.

I know most of you don’t live in San Diego but here’s an Instagram post from the local food bank here with more information on how you can help.

It also has info about the changes at the national level. The changes to SNAP are happening everywhere and they will be devastating for hungry people.

newsom *could* be taking this moment to leverage state funds and ensure that millions of california residents don’t go hungry when SNAP benefits (CalFresh in california) don’t renew on 1 november

instead, he’s doing this.

(authorizing a one-time cash influx to food banks doesn’t replace CalFresh!)

Trump's SNAP cuts take effect TODAY.

More than 5 million Californians rely on CalFresh to buy groceries, yet Republicans' Big Ugly Bill could cause an estimated 550,000 Californians to lose these benefits because of new burdensome red tape—not because they no longer qualify.

Trump & his lapdogs in Congress pushed through a $186 billion cut to SNAP/CalFresh over the next 10 years in their budget this Summer.

They chose that. Cruelty.

He’s turned his back on the American people.

It only ends when Trump gets on a plane & returns to the US to negotiate with his own party

As National Nutrition Month comes to an end, we should be ensuring all Americans have healthy food on their tables.

But because of Trump’s One Big Ugly Bill, instead 3 million Californian households could lose their SNAP/CalFresh benefits and go hungry.
March 31, 2026 at 3:30 PM
Donald Trump’s refusal to fund SNAP for over 5 million Californians that rely on CalFresh is leaving families without food to put on their table. It’s shameful.

Food banks are already facing a record number of new customers. I hope you’ll consider donating to a food bank to help meet the demand.

Changes that Republicans made to SNAP will kick a lot of people off food stamps starting April 1.

If you can, please support your local food bank.

On Nov 1, new SNAP cuts hit. In our district alone, 81,300 people — 10.7% of CA-32 — rely on CalFresh to eat. When a nation stops feeding its people, it’s not budgeting — it’s collapsing.

I had totally missed that SF is issuing one-time prepaid grocery cards to CalFresh (ie, SNAP) beneficiaries. All CalFresh recipients in the city are supposed to get instructions in the mail this week.

It's one time, but great to see the city stepping in.

Nearly 100,000 people in San Diego County are at risk of losing food assistance under new Republican-imposed work requirements that just took effect.

Food banks were already running out of food before this.

Trump & the GOP are trying to destroy these programs.

It’s hard to overstate how devastating this would be to millions of families here & across the US.

Republicans made devastating cuts to SNAP (aka CalFresh) in their Big Ugly Bill – meaning many of our neighbors will go hungry. I met with Alondra, the President and CEO of the San Diego Hunger Coalition, to discuss the impact of these cuts and what we can do.

There is a contingency fund that Trump and his lapdogs in Congress have claimed has run dry.

That is a lie.

There is up to $6 billion in that fund to provide SNAP/CalFresh benefits during shutdowns.

Republicans are playing politics.

Almost 400,000 people in San Diego County alone receive Cal-Fresh (aka SNAP) benefits every month to afford food. Now, because Republicans in Congress are refusing to reopen the government, November benefits will likely be delayed.
