Red Teamers: do NOT neglect SNMP like sysadmins usually do! SO many networks have granted me very quick wins through SNMP enumeration, which can be done with Metasploit, snmpwalk, and onesixtyone:

. @ciaranm.bsky.social mentioned in this The Times piece about telecom hacks. He's absolutely on the money. A large part of the problem with UK telcos is attackers knowing SNMP strings (and default ones). SNMPv2 from 1995, btw. Then using it to redirect traffic.

Sort of the opposite, but flashback to the time I was developing an SNMP agent and while testing, sent an SNMP broadcast query with "public" community string. i discovered a LOT more devices than I was expecting.

I remember a network switch that’s out of the box defaults emitted the admin password in the SNMP data.
Oof. Years ago I discovered a support file I generated for a vendor contained domain admin equivalent credentials.

I had a simple goal: dump the MAC address forwarding database from a "Web Managed" PoE switch.
It has SNMP, but of course it doesn't expose that information.
Fine. Violence (scraping with a Python script) it is.
