1/ The problem I have with Medicare Advantage plans is that, if I sign up for one, the $ deducted from my SocSec retirement benefit would then be redirected to a private insurance company that would then have discretionary approval of ALL my medical treatments.

That IS criminal! Do you have employer-sponsored ins now? I had to retire at age 50 due to going on SocSec Disability, & you have to be on SS for 2 yrs b4 being eligible for Medicare. When I finally got Medicare, I got a Medicare Advantage co-ins for cheap.

… SocSec has been an unusually popular federal program because it’s perceived as simple and fair. The problem now is fewer and fewer working people paying in, with more drawing out, as our population ages.

Something has to give. No such thing as a free lunch. Start by removing salary cap.

That’s not the SocSec model.

For about 90 years SS has worked pretty damn well by having working people (and their employers) pay into the fund, while retired & disabled people draw from it.

Funding SS from general taxes on wealthy would completely change and potentially jeopardize it.
