So, we wrapped up SotDL, and we all know we want to try the next D&D boxed set when it drops in September, so as an interim game, we've decided to play Blades '68. It's too late for it to be a playtest, so we'll just have to play it for *fun*, like a bunch of plebes.

SotDL has finally wrapped, with only one death, primarily because the dice were so profoundly on the player's side as to get comical at points. Technically, they saved the continent twice, the second time by stepping on a robo-chicken with a mech.

Having gotten most of the way through a full campaign of SotDL, I have realized my biggest mistake and have this advice for all prospective Shadow of the Demon Lord GMs -

There are over 100 supplements for SotDL, so I’ll assume that if you can’t play what you want in the class Weird Wizard, you either well soon or can do a quick conversion.

+1 to this. I thought I didn’t like GMing but it turns out that I just didn’t like GMing 5e. And just recently I was getting a little burned out running SotDL. We swapped to Cypher and I’m back in the game!

13th Age is pretty much tied with Pathfinder for my favorite flavor of D&D. Though if you count other close games like SotDL and Draw Steel this gets messy.

For tonight's SOTDL session, the level 8 party came back to the dungeon they encountered at level 3 and noped the hell out of.
I ran it unchanged, and while they were a *little* tough for it, it was very far from a cake walk, mostly reinforcing that noping out was the right decision.

From there, the actual mechanics of rolling dice are straightforward. Pick a stat, check for bonuses, roll and add, pass or fail, you'll get a hope of the GM gets a fear. Roll is meet or beat, and advantage/disadvantge use the SotDL boon & bane model.

But when I talk shit about advantage/disadvantage I always point out how banes and boons from SotDL does it better
