I think Trump grants TikTok a 60 or 90 day reprieve. There will be whatever overtures to get a private deal or consortium of buyers. The deal falls through when China blocks it. The ban then proceeds as proxy for a broader "war," which is what Rubio and all the sinophobes want-- esp around Taiwan.

The purge includes Program Officers (POs), Scientific Review Officers (SROs), and Grants Management Specialists (GMSs) although I do not have even a sense of the numbers.
POs and SROs are, of course, generally PhDs with specialized expertise so filling these gaps with others will not be easy.

i think people look at homelessness as a relatively new phenomenon and reason backwards to think that in the Before Times, poor people must've all been able to afford houses/their own apartments etc.
Most of the housing types the poor used were actually just outlawed (boarding houses, SROs etc)

The two hardest and most unforgiving facts in housing policy are that it actually costs a lot of money to build new homes and that the rents that poor people can afford are not enough to pay off the cost of construction.
Although I do understand the frustration with the brutally high cost of housing, people tend to deemphasize the actual cost.

But this move is a cut. We are hearing approximately 150 SROs will be removed, out of approximately 600. That's in line with Berg's numbers.
Removing SROs will slow grant review, and that will reduce grant funding.

Also Banning SROs does not prevent dangerous overcrowding situation in homes and multi family units
We need to re-legalize the very cheap, bare bones housing that keeps people off the street.
More broadly, we need policymakers to be ok with letting people build types of housing that they would not particularly want to live in.
