Excommunicating SSPX and reigning in Opus Dei are both strong institutional steps in disavowing the Christofascist Neo-Catholic project you're describing. They strongly reaffirmed Vatican II in the face of racism and Crusader fantasies. As do papal visits to mosques, Mediterranean refugee sites etc
