It is recommended that sex workers have routine STI tests every three months. This timeframe helps identify and treat infections early, while allowing enough time for accurate results to show up after potential exposure.

You should always test straight away if you develop symptoms such as pain, discharge, sores, or rashes.

Pornstars and online content creators may choose to get routine sexual health checks more frequently than the recommended three month period as an industry standard and to attend shoots.

We understand that some free sexual heath clinics can be busy and unable to provide short notice appointments if it falls withing the recommended three month period, or if you don't have symptoms.

If you need to access STI testing for work in a hurry, telehealth services can be a flexible alternative.

Telehealth STI testing works by having an online appointment with a telehealth provider, where you will be given an electronic request form for pathology. You will then need to visit a collection site to get your test. Usually you will be texted your results, sometimes this can be the next day.

While telehealth STI screening is relatively new, some services may offer different things:

• Some of these services are free, and some have a low cost.

• Medicare is sometimes required, and may incur a fee if not.

• Appointments can sometimes be anonymous.

It is also important to us that you are aware of what services are available when it comes to STI testing, so please get in touch with our friendly outreach staff to discuss your options.

After decades of absence, Joy, the world's first statue of a sex worker, is finally being reinstated in East Sidney, and the timing couldn't be more fitting. This year marks 30 years since Joy, created by artist Loui May (formerly Fraser), was first unveiled on the corner of Stanley and Yurong Street. A bold and beautiful tribute to women, sex workers, and the rich history of the local area, Joy stood proudly for 18 months before being removed.

It's also 30 years since New South ales became the first jurisdiction in the world to decriminalize sex work, cementing our place in global history as a leader in sex worker rights.

During her short time on public display and in the decades since, Joy has continued to resonate. She has inspired writers, scholars, activists, poets and musicians alike. She represents not only artistic innovation, but visibility, pride, and the ongoing fight for respect and recognition of sex workers everywhere.

In early 2023, a renewed campaign to bring Joy back was launched by sex worker activist and policy consultant Julie Bates AO, artist Loui May, and historian Dr. Catherine Freyne, with the backing of sex workers, community allies, and historians. Gaining the support of then-Councillor Linda Scott mid-2023 proved to be a crucial turning point.

Now, thanks to funding from the City of Sydney and Loui's incredible collaboration with a local foundry, Joy has been faithfully recast in bronze from the original mould, stronger, more enduring, and ready to take her rightful place in the streets of Sydney once again.

Her return is a powerful recognition of the contributions of women and working people to the city's cultural fabric, and a long-overdue celebration of the lives, labour, and legacy of sex workers.

«Today is International Sex Worker Rights Day»
Tuesday March 3rd 2026.

This day's history goes back to 2001, when over 25,000 sex workers gathered in India for a festival despite efforts from prohibitionists groups who tried to prevent it taking place by pressuring the government to revoke their permit.

The event was organised by Durbar Mahila Samanwaya Committee, a Calcutta based group that has over 50,000 sex worker members, and members of their communities.

Sex workers groups across the world have subsequently celebrated 3 March as an annual, international event, as International Sex Workers' Rights Day.

‣ Sex worker rights day in so called ‘Australia’

The FULL decriminalisation of sex work removes sex work-specific criminal and licensing laws AND police powers for ALL sex workers, including sex workers from marginalised groups.

While many jurisdictions in so called ‘Australia’ have achieved decriminalisation, many sex workers still work under criminalised models.

Even states with versions of decriminalisation, like here in NSW, still seek continued improvements.

Rights now, Western Australia, Australian Capital Territory, and South Australia have active campaigns to decriminalise sex work in their jurisdictions. You can help by following their social media and staying up to date with their movement.
