#SYS76
Because I believe in education?

Tbf: modern distros like sys76, mint, and ubuntu 'just work' out of the box for Web Apps and Infotainment. Most users just need a browser these days. I'm a savvy linux user and even I rarely need to get into 'hard stuff'.

Fellow Sys76 laptop user spotted in the wild? What model is this one?

Sys76 could really benefit from a shakeup in acct'g, finance, and marketing.

The customer experience & engineering is great, but the actual biz is basically asleep.

Recruiting for marketing & ops research talent (wharton, sloan) would be a great start.

Maybe a CFO w/a more aggro growth strategy

people think gnome is simplistic but imo fedora is as polished as it gets.

also isnt sys76 what your describing?

PopOS is just Ubuntu but, Sys76-afied.

So I am not that surprised that you sharted it.

their model seems similar to sys76 stuff, which is pretty awesome. love a modular laptop that is not glued together and disposable

Not only do I think it would be cool to have a Framework laptop; it'd be really cool to have one running RISC-V. Prices start at $1,799, so a comparable to some Sys76 laptops, but with everything swappable: Framework Laptop 13 gets RISC-V upgrade with DC-ROMA Mainboard III

sending off my computer to sys76 tomorrow, I'll be without a good computer for a few weeks or more. i'll still have my trusty 2012 home laptop though. that's what I've been doing my UEFI dev on lmao, as a challenge. DDR3 + 2nd gen Intel speeds cannot stop this bitch

Agreed on framework.

I want to like sys76, but my experience has been a miss for me with the pangolin. Poor qc, ok support at first, but downhill post-covid, when they cut their workforce.

I think a secondhand Thinkpad would have been far less effort and money for a better experience.

Does this mean I retire the Sys76 Thelio running 3.7 GHz 4 core AMD Ryzen 5 3400G I bought in 2019 but which has at least 5 years of service left? Probably not, but this is damn worrisome nonetheless: 'SinkClose' AMD CPU vulnerability explained: How dangerous is it really?
'SinkClose' AMD CPU vulnerability explained: How dangerous is it really?
The flaw endangers essentially all - yes, all - AMD processors made since 2006, but it threatens servers, data centers, and clouds more than the PC in front of you. Here's what you need to know and…

And also, FW has a big asterisk because they sponsor hyprland and omarchy, both are made by some pretty bad people. Generally though, smaller brands like Sys76 and FW are the way to go, or just getting a used thinkpad and calling it a day.

What version of Sys76 desktop do you use?
June 28, 2025 at 8:11 PM
Sys76 is GOD DAMN GREAT, but I'm going for FW16 cuz it suits my personal needs way way more than Sys76's laptops.

And also I can disassemble n paint it in my style. c:

I have given up on PopOS. Im sorry sys76, its very pretty but I couldn't get Intel's Arc working.

Bazzite on the other hand 👀👀👀

Didn't realise just how bad highdpi laptop montiors were handled in PopOS.
Ubuntu handles them flawlessly - so what the heck are sys76 doing above ubuntu to bork it?!?!
