Had a great time talking to @chrislhayes.bsky.social for his AI End Game series on MSNow, covering the AI bubble, the SaaSpocalypse, the end of tech's era of hypergrowth, and the underlying economic fragility of data centers and the greater AI industry.

The SaaSpocalypse is essentially over. SAAS companies like Salesforce and Workday have mostly recovered from the crashes in their stock prices when investors assumed customers would vibe code alternatives.

I think investors overestimated what will happen this year and underestimate the future.

hey remember the saaspocalypse
Last week, AI was imminently going to end all of humanity.

This week, it’s a threat to the banking business of GSIBs for reasons that really haven’t been thoroughly articulated.
Shares of major banks, insurers and online travel agencies slid as investors fear that tools like Meta’s Muse could disrupt businesses that benefit from so-called consumer inertia

The actual SaaSpocalypse risk isn’t customers vibe coding their own versions of Salesforce or Workday. It’s that agentic coding makes it easier for startups to build fully functional competitors and compete on price.

However that isn’t a trend you see in six months. We’ll find out in a few years.

Okta shot up 30% Friday, while Snowflake jumped 50% this week.

The SaaSpocalypse narrative is being rewritten as it turns out AI adoption means businesses use SaaS services like identity and data warehouses more versus vibe code their own solutions.

Duh.

there will be no saaspocalypse

the last 20 years made it clear people dont want to run infrastructure

that tells us they definitely dont want to run tons of bespoke services that add uncertainty and complication to their lives

So much for the SaaSpocalypse.

Salesforce raised its full year guidance and announced a Claudeforce partnership with Anthropic. It’s AI ARR now almost $4B.

Okta also raised its full year guidance and operating profit more than doubled.

The market bet wrong on vibe coded alternatives killing them
