"Lord Christ, your saints have been the lights of the world in every generation. Grant that we who follow in their footsteps may be made worthy to enter with them into that heavenly kingdom where you live & reign forever & ever. Amen."

"That we may be bound together by your Holy Spirit in the communion of Saint Mary the Virgin & all your saints, entrusting one another & all our life to Christ, We entreat thee, O Lord."

A tempera-on-parchment-painting from the Rabula Gospel (6th Century Syrian Manuscript). This is one of the earliest depictions of The Ascension. It is extremely detailed & full of bright & vivid colors. At the top of the page is Jesus Christ inside a blue oval, surrounded by winged angels, which symbolizes his being taken up into heaven. On the bottom of the page is Mary (the mother of our Lord) in a purple robe, with her arms outstretched. She is included here, even though she is not mentioned by name in the Ascension story. On her left side & right side are two men dressed in white (as described in Acts 1:10), they are shown here as having angels wings. They are both looking at the Apostles, who are in the left hand corner & right hand corner. All the Apostles are looking up & some are pointing to Jesus. image credit: public domain

O God, you have taken to yourself the blessed Virgin Mary, mother of your incarnate Son: Grant that we, who have been redeemed by his blood, may share with her the glory of your eternal kingdom; through Jesus Christ our Lord, who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever. Amen. white text over a painting of the Nativity meme credit: The Episcopal Church

"And because you are children, God has sent the Spirit of his Son into our hearts, crying, "Abba! Father!" So you are no longer a slave but a child, & if a child then also an heir, through God."

"When the fullness of time had come, God sent his Son, born of a woman, born under the law, in order to redeem those who were under the law, so that we might receive adoption as children."

Color photo of a 2nd Century fresco in the Priscilla Catacomb (Rome). It is believed to be the earliest known depiction of the Virgin Mother holding the Christ Child. There is a star above Mary's head, & the figure on the left is believed to represent the prophet Isaiah, foretelling the virgin birth of the Messiah. Painted by an unknown artist (circa 100~150 CE) public domain. 📸 Joseph Wilpert (1903)

The Song of Mary Magnificat Luke 1:46-55 Mary said, "My soul magnifies the Lord, and my spirit rejoices in God my Savior, for he has looked with favor on the lowliness of his servant. Surely, from now on all generations will call me blessed; for the Mighty One has done great things for me, and holy is his name. His mercy is for those who fear him from generation to generation. He has shown strength with his arm; he has scattered the proud in the thoughts of their hearts. He has brought down the powerful from their thrones, and lifted up the lowly; he has filled the hungry with good things, and sent the rich away empty. He has helped his servant Israel, in remembrance of his mercy, according to the promise he made to our ancestors, to Abraham and to his descendants forever." Glory to the Father & to the Son & to the Holy Spirit: As it was in the beginning, is now & will be forever. Amen.
