And I'll be joining the #Spideroctober challenge of Julien Nowak (instagram) so each Sunday (& Saturday for the 31/10), you'll have drawing only posts of the spiders drawn during the week✏️

Happy Arachtober to all of you, hope you'll like what I have in store for this month and let's have fun! :D✨️

A friendly Salticus on my garden chair. Jumped when I got the tube out but somehow got back up and was happy to jump on my hand. Wonder if it’ll come back for a third go?

I often find Salticus cingulatus alongside Marpissa muscosa. Try staring at sunlit Scots Pine trunks

A common species in #Scotland, but this is the first time I've had the pleasure of finding Salticus scenicus in my back garden. This inquisitive one was hunting on a plant pot, and the contrasting glaze made for a nice #portrait!

The Zebra Spider (Salticus scenicus) may look cute but it's an effective predator, and even smaller spiders make for a tasty lunch. #arachnid @britishspiders.bsky.social

Look at those eyelashes! 🩶🤍🩶And that intent gaze, staring up into the fronds of my big Shefflera tree, where they subsequently leapt. Such a wee smidgeon, I hope I don’t accidentally vacuum her up one day (they seem like an Evelyn?); I hope they stay my roommate for the next 20 years! #JumpingSpider

The teeniest tiniest Zebra jumping spider came to investigate when I lay down to nap! Look at the translucent legs, so hairy🩶 (This isn’t a crocheted blanket, it’s a close-woven bedsheet.) I’m delighted my camera could even focus on her as she ping-ponged around! #spider #EmotionalSupportSpood

More from my magnificent wildlife garden!

I've well over 150 species of invertebrates so far recorded from in my wildlife garden; I'm so very lucky...

Garden wildlife. Firstly, I disturbed a nice Woodlouse Spider (Dysdera sp.) when I moved a bin, then I saw two Zebra Spiders (Salticus scenicus) on a bin - I thought it would be interesting to see what happened when they met, but the one on the lid panicked and ran away! @britishspiders.bsky.social

Some things on church walls over the last couple of days - spiders Attulus pubescens and Salticus scenicus, and Common Field Grasshopper Chorthippus brunneus. Loads of Bristly Millipedes out and about too.

Salticus cingulatus jumping spider.

Actually, the Latin verb “saltare” means both “to jump” and “to dance”. So is this a dancing spider, after all? 💃

Another cutie patootie?!

Salticus peckhamae, very stylish jumping spider!

For some reason this week has been a good one for jumping spiders (Salticidae) indoors. My first Downy Jumping Spider (Attulus pubsescens) was in the bathroom, Pseudeuophrys lanigera was in the porch and a Zebra Spider (Salticus scenicus) was climbing the net curtains.

Variously known as Salticus minax, Plexippus minax, Trite minax and Ocrisiona leucocomis, but it got its current name 1899 when it was redescribed by French arachnologist Eugène Simon.

First described as Salticus appresus in 1873, by Dr Llewellyn Powell (1843–1879 - way too young), a Welsh-born eye surgeon, and Christchurch’s first Medical Officer of Health and who taught the first university-level biology and chemistry courses at Canterbury College.

Salticus scenicus, then. Scottish, and black and white

The grass/stone bank line produced lots of spider igloos under the stones near areas with ant activity Zodarion fuscum. Most igloos had egg sacks, some were being used by imm. salticus. Recorded here previously, the third different location I have come across it locally. @britishspiders.bsky.social

Local wildlife. I was watching a Wasp feeding on some prey remains dropped by the resident Peregrines, when I noticed a Zebra Spider (Salticus scenicus) approaching. It didn't approach the wasp but was interested in a Common Green Bottlefly which was nearby, but the fly flew off!

Heyo, I know this is ages later, but I'd like to clarify that this is NOT a twin-flagged jumper. It is a zebra jumper, genus Salticus, probably S. scenicus if this is in North America. If you used an AI based identifier, unfortunately, they're very bad at spiders.
