The plentiful American flour was used to make the first instant ramen by Samyang in the 1960s but initially were unpopular bc it tasted plain. Legend has it Park asked Samyang to make the ramen spicy, as he liked spicy foods. Samyang's rival Nongshim joined the ramen fray and created Shin Ramen.

also worth mentioning that Samyang was the king of ramen initially until the saturated far scare (which started in the US driven by Ansel Keys) globally allowed Nongshim to dislodge Samyang by marketing that its ramen was fried in vegetable oil while Samyang used beef tallow in the 1960s
