Sask legit could use more power. (I used to work at SaskPower.) We could have been investing in wind and solar for decades but instead we’ve done fuck all but yearn for nuclear.
The plant is forecast to start up in 2030 at capital cost of ~$7B for 300MW. Similar-sized wind & gas plants (300MW) in Saskatchewan are currently forecast at $750-850M (~1/8 the capital cost).
However, “‘No nuclear plant of any type has ever come in on budget, let alone a new untested design’”.

Maybe I’m too anachronistic here but crown corporations should be beholden to only hire people who live in the area in which taxes are paid to the crown. Eg. No hiring call centre dinguses from Nanahoogistan because it’s cheaper than hiring SK folks for SGI/SaskTel/SaskPower/SaskEnergy employees.

Unnecessary (part 1) – SaskPower identified options for its electricity future in its extensive supply planning public engagement. Extending the life of coal plants was not on the table. Viable alternatives exist to power the province, including ‘dispatchable’ natural gas power plants.
