Astronomy was the first field to consistently use digital cameras / CCDs wasn’t it? And multi spectral and hyper spectral following on from that. Radio astronomy developed a lot of the tech used later in satcoms. Adaptive optics now used in microscopy.

Europe can provide a lot of SATCOMs, but I'm more concerned about non-US-reliant space-based ISR targeting capabilities for European precision-guided munitions that are supplied to Ukraine. FR, DE, ITA, FN have ISR assets but not a tightly integrated mass C4ISR PGM system that NATO uses.

What gets remembered about any war is the 1-2% that's wildly innovative and unprecedented; the othr 98-99% of boring traditional stuff gets forgotten. Eg. the Ukraine war is going to be remembered for drones and satcoms, not the huge numbers of T-72s going mano a mano with M1A1s and Leopard-IIs.
