#Saturday3
Hi #EduSky - it's time for my #Saturday3 and since I am currently completely failing to write up the talk that I gave at researchED.... here are 3 blogs that all touch on important aspects of that talk.

Hi #EduSky - it’s another #Sunday3 rather than a #Saturday3 this week because it was a big family day for me yesterday. Lots of great blogs et this week so you are going to get my niche selection of things I found really interesting.

Anyway, on with the #Saturday3 of 3 very different edu-blogs. First up, it’s a punchy blog from @bennewmark.bsky.social

I love these insights into what teachers are doing in their class and I am going to steal from Ben and Claire “say it to own it!”

bennewmark.wordpress.com/2026/09/09/s...
Stop Making Them Copy
As a young teacher, I used copying as a classroom management technique. And it sort of worked. If I made disruptive pupils copy in silence and was stern with those who weren’t, I was sometimes able…

Hi #EduSky - the big news this week was PISA results but I already shared the most interesting posts and stats (to me) so Instead wanted to respond in my #Saturday3 to this excellent blog by @claireharley.bsky.social because I am not sure that edublogging is in such a dire state as she feels…
New post!

First one and probably last one for a while as this term is crazy!

Hi #EduSky - it's time for my #Saturday3 and with GCSEs out this week, there is an inevitable focus on the "forgotten third" of students who don't get GCSEs at Grade 4 and above. As all 3 pieces here say, there are no easy answers but I learned a lot from each of them.

Hi #EduSky - a day late with my #Saturday3 due to busy family times yesterday. Unusually, I have picked a mainstream newspaper article as one of my first choices. It's a superb piece by Katherine Rundell on the perils of AI for our children and young people.

www.theguardian.com/books/ng-int...
‘I hate what AI is doing to the minds and happiness of the young’: Katherine Rundell on the view from the classroom
Education is at a crossroads, argues the author and academic. Should we embrace new technology in the name of efficiency, or is it time to fight back?

Hi #EduSky - I think it is my latest ever #Saturday3 following a busy day with my wider family. Hopefully, you can enjoy these over a cup of something on Sunday morning. First up, @dylanpkane.bsky.social on motivation. fivetwelvethirteen.substack.com/p/three-type...

I reposted the equivalent article on primary books in my #Saturday3 yesterday and I’d really recommend comparing the two lists. In my experience, most of the books on the primary list are read widely by boys and girls but we get here and, suddenly, it’s dominated by books read by girls.
The bestselling books list for teens shows the ‘chasm’ between GCSE texts and ‘what young people actually enjoy reading’ – how do you close the gap? Tes explores

Hi #EduSky - late to my #Saturday3 this week because, well, it's lovely weather where I am and I have enjoyed being out most of the day. The big education story this week is Burnham's proposals for technical education but I don't feel qualified enough to evaluate blogs on that so...

Hi #EduSky - late with my #Saturday3 this week because it turns out that going to see The Odyssey takes a big chunk out of your day. First up, a report on a huge Chinese study on AI and its effects on children which should worry us all.

Study finds AI boosted homework scores 18%—then tanked exam results 20% | Fortune

HI #EduSky - it’s a late #Saturday3 this week as I am still catching up after my holiday! First up, a really interesting article from @jamestplunkett.bsky.social looking at schools as civic enablers and featuring Surrey Square Primary School.

No #Saturday3 this week because I am on holiday in Croatia and have been walking more than reading so enjoy this unfiltered picture of one of Mljet’s lakes. Just incredible to see close-up.

Hi #EduSky - a quick break from packing to do my #Saturday3 this week before heading to the airport later. This week, I found three great blogs, all with provocative / quirky titles. First up, @alexjquigley.bsky.social tells us how to read Moby Dick or does he?

Bonus - didn't qualify for #Saturday3 as something published back in 2019 but I also really enjoyed reading this blog on helping your ITT students to end well. I am glad that @victoriacrooks.bsky.social reposted it on Bluesky this week.

Hi #EduSky - a late #Saturday3 this week after my final #chess tournament in Laos. It's been great to play with some of the talented youngsters who are going to play for their country in Singapore later this year as well as a few older players.

3 very different blogs this week!

Hi #EduSky - late to my #Saturday3 today but have chosen some blogs that I didn't fully agree with but nonetheless thought were thought-provoking and deserved reading. First, the rather sobering Last Teacher Stranding from @joelkenyon.bsky.social.

It came in just after I had put this #Saturday3 together but this by @daisychristo.bsky.social is also very much in line with the theme this week! Another fun post on the perils of personalising education...

Came in just too late for my #Saturday3 this week but this is great stuff from @jonnelledge.bsky.social.

By the way, if you use this #Saturday3, don't forget to answer yesterday's Teacher Tapp question about use of social media for work! It will be open until the new question comes out later today.

Hi #EduSky - it's time for my #Saturday3 and I was spoilt for choice this week! I'll start with something that I have really changed my mind on over the last few years - handwriting. As someone who went through education fairly well despite lousy handwriting, I really downplayed its importance.

Hi #EduSky - late to my #Saturday3 today because I have been playing chess most of the day. First up, this is a great blog from @victoriacrooks.bsky.social on the difficulties of just telling trainees / ECTs to teach from what's on the system.

Hi #EduSky - it's time for my #Saturday3 and since many UK teachers are going off on a well-earned break, I have gone for some thought-provoking rather than immediately practical posts that I enjoyed this week. As you will see, it's actually a #Saturday3.5 this week.

Hi #Edusky! My #Saturday3 has been a bit delayed by a lot of #Booksky chat today so it's appropriate that I have picked three pieces that all have to do with the role of reading and writing in schools. First up - Robert Pondiscio on the reading of books in schools.

substack.com/inbox/post/1...
Books Aren’t Disappearing From Schools
A valuable new RAND report complicates the panic over disappearing novels—and suggests the accountability era taught schools to think about reading in the wrong way.
