I've constructed a draft for folks to contact Sony in regards to their plans for discontinuing physical discs in 2028. I implore everyone to push back against this decision.

Dear SIE I hope this message finds you well. I’m writing to express my strong support for physical media and to urge Sony to reconsider its decision to stop producing physical discs for new PlayStation games starting in January 2028. While I understand the shift toward digital distribution, I believe physical media plays a vital role in gaming culture, accessibility, and sustainability. Here’s why I hope Sony will continue offering physical copies: Ownership and Longevity: Physical discs provide true ownership—no reliance on servers, internet access, or DRM. They also have a longer lifespan than digital files, which can become inaccessible due to account shutdowns, server closures, or format changes. Accessibility: Not all gamers have reliable internet access, and physical copies ensure that everyone can enjoy games without barriers. This is especially important for families, collectors, and gamers in rural or underserved areas. Sustainability: The gaming industry contributes to e-waste through obsolete consoles and digital-only policies. Physical media, while not perfect, offers a more sustainable alternative by reducing the need for constant hardware upgrades and cloud storage. Collector’s Value: Physical editions often include exclusive art, manuals, and packaging that enhance the gaming experience. Many gamers, including myself, value these tangible aspects of gaming culture. Market Demand: There is clear demand for physical media, as seen in the resurgence of vinyl records, film photography, and retro gaming. Many gamers prefer physical copies for convenience, nostalgia, or personal preference. I respectfully request that Sony: Continue offering physical discs for new PlayStation games beyond January 2028. Provide a clear timeline or roadmap for how physical media will be supported in the future. Explore hybrid models (e.g., physical + digital) to accommodate all players.
