A photorealistic AI-generated image shows a young Sudanese sculptor standing in the bomb-scarred courtyard of Khartoum’s National Museum at dusk. Golden sunlight pierces a haze of lingering smoke, throwing long beams across shattered display cases and toppled stone statues. Shards of glass glint on dusty tiles. The sculptor—mid-20s, short curly hair, dusty denim overalls—clutches a cracked clay bust to their chest, dried ochre glaze streaking their fingers. Their posture is upright yet tense; a mix of resolve and quiet anguish sharpens their gaze. In soft focus behind them, two armed paramilitaries patrol the rubble, reminding the viewer of the conflict’s constant threat. The shallow depth of field isolates the artist, amplifying the fragile bond between human creativity and a devastated heritage site. Created with DALL·E to spotlight the cultural losses unfolding amid Sudan’s civil war and to call for urgent protection of artists and artifacts.
