Among the world's most endangered fishes, sawfish have lost over half their habitat worldwide and are vulnerable to gillnets and trawlers used by the fishing and prawn industries, because of their rostrum that gets easily tangled in nets.

A Largetooth Sawfish cruises around the grassy seabeds in Florida, with background fish swimming near by. Sawfish are one of the most unique cartilaginous fish, but sadly, due to overfishing for their iconic saw like blade that helps them stunn their prey, they're now critically endangered as a result of human activity destroying coastal estuaries and inshore fishing nets declining their populations. Nevertheless, it goes without saying that sawfish deserve more love to be protected away from the harmful consequences of habitat degradation. (Art done back in early May 2025)
