A double-crested cormorant rests on top of a red mooring buoy numbered 10 at the harbor in Santa Barbara, CA. I took this picture on October 9, 2010, when my son Sean and I kayaked out to drop some of my late husbands ashes on what would have been his 62nd birthday. He had passed of Lung Cancer in August. Santa Barbara was one of our favorite getaways and Tom loved kayaking there. The cormorant landed on the buoy just as we passed by and stood there while we dropped the ashes. A very memorable moment for sure and one we will always remember.
